Study Fiction or Poetry at Trinity College Dublin

Classes with novelist John Dufresne or poet Cindy Chinelly. Spend evenings on literary  pub crawls and walking tours. On Saturday, celebrate Bloomsday, the sacred day of James Joyce, by recreating the steps of his characters through the city.

Stay in academic housing cottages, or private rooms in a shared home with other writers, attend morning sessions, and spend your afternoons writing. Join us for a three-day workshop with John Dufresne at the Lakeside Inn in Mt. Dora, Florida. September 28-30. Attend morning sessions, and spend your afternoons writing or exploring the town. Attend with a 25-page manuscript (short fiction or chapters from novels-in-progress), or participate without a manuscript.

Space is limited to 12 writers with short story manuscripts (no more than 25 pages), however, a reduced rate is offered to those who do not yet have a completed story, but would like to attend and experience a workshop.

The group will meet in the afternoons for happy hour and mornings before the workshop for coffee and pastries. 

Tuition with manuscript: $500 (Must register by August 28, 2017)

Tuition without manuscript: $450 (Can register any time until the class sells out)

Join us for a writers' workshop at The Lakeside Inn in Lovely Mt. Dora, Florida 

The writers' workshop will meet at the Lakeside Inn from 9 a.m. to noon to discuss the stories you’ve written. Dufresne will address concerns about writing and storytelling and lecture on narrative techniques and the fiction writing process. Writing exercises designed to give imaginations opportunities will complement the workshop. Dufresne will also meet individually in conference with each student. In the late afternoon, students will gather for social time and informal discussions of the writing business. Dufresne says, “You’ll come to the conference with an agenda—what it is you hope to learn—and we’ll do our best to see that your agenda is met.”

The Seaside Institute presents the CREATIVE WRITING WORKSHOP with JOHN DUFRESNE..

The short fiction workshop will meet from 9 am to Noon to discuss the stories you have written. John will lecture on narrative techniques and the fiction writing process and will help overcome your concerns about writing and storytelling. Writing exercises designed to give imaginations opportunities will complement the workshop.

John will meet individually in conference with each student. John Dufresne is the author of five novels: Louisiana Power & Light, Love Warps the Mind a Little (both New York Times Notable Books of the Year), Deep in the Shade of Paradise, Requiem, Mass., and No Regrets, Coyote.  He also wrote two short story collections: The Way That Water Enters Stone and Johnny Too Bad and three chapbooks: Lethe, Cupid, Time and Love; Well Enough Alone; and I Will Eat a Piece of the Roof and You Can Eat the Window. John has two books on writing and creativity: The Lie That Tells a Truth: a Guide to Writing Fiction and Is Life Like This?: a Guide to Writing Your First Novel in Six Months.
